Blazing Saddles - Coming Up

Your San Diego freebie-ish for:
Wednesday, July 28, at 8 p.m.

Find it:
At the Pearl Hotel, 1410 Rosecrans St. in San Diego

Turns out there's several ways to go watch movies outdoors around here. One is the Pearl Hotel's Dive-In (because there's a pool) movies on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. It's not completely free because I think they'd like you to buy drinks or dinner or something.

Tonight's pick - the 1974 Mel Brooks' classic Blazing Saddles. However, it's September's line up I'm looking forward to, with Juno (yeah, I still haven't seen it), The Graduate, The Goonies, Swingers and Weird Science.

Pride Parade

After my last post, my friend Christina Conway of Twinklings made a stellar recommendation for what should be a wildly entertaining free Saturday activity: Attend the San Diego Pride Parade which will be kicking off from University Avenue and Normal Street at 11 a.m. on July 17.
Indeed, I noticed some buildings were already decked out for the Pride extravaganza this weekend on University Avenue.

Balboa walking tour

Explore Balboa Park with WalkSanDiego Saturday, July 17, at 9 a.m. I learned about this one from the California Center for Sustainable Energy calendar, but look for details at WalkSanDiego.
They are recommending a $5 donation.

Stone Brewery

Not quite free. You need to get to Escondido and you'll probably end up making some purchases from Stone Brewing World Bistro& Gardens.
However, you do get to check out a movie on the outdoor screen at this brewery's restaurant. Tomorrow night they feature JAWS (July 14). Get the details from their Stone Movies website.

By the way, this is for 21+.

Saturday greening

My currently extremely flexible schedule has allowed me to attend plenty of workshops at the California Center for Sustainable Energy. Lucky me. However, you may be interested in installing solar panels on your house, yet not have the time in the middle of the weekday to visit CCSE for one of their awesome free workshops.

Lucky you. CCSE has created a summer Saturday workshop series.

P.S. CCSE also offers some evening workshops.

One more go

Yep, I think I will try to actually take in Residents Free Tuesday tomorrow at Balboa Park. I'm hoping to teach myself some San Diego history and peruse some rock and roll photos.

Concert in a park - free today

I've learned, from my friends at Savory Deli and Market in University Heights, that there is a free summer outdoor concert series at the Trolley Barn Park (on Adams Avenue just east of Park Boulevard).
Tonight, a Motown-type group, The Corvettes, takes the stage from 6 to 8 p.m.
The series comes from the University Heights Community Development Corporation.

Enjoy!
